Sick Fuck People

Documentary I Austria/Ukraine I 2013 | 75 min
Language: Russian/Ukrainian with English subtitles
World Premiere at HOT DOCS International Documentary Film Festival Toronto 2013

A documentary triptych about a group of homeless kids, who have survived their drug-addicted childhood, grew up and start to live an adult life. It’s a story about a boy facing the surreal, degenerated society of his native village full of hate and sadistic anger while searching for his mother. It’s a story about a pregnant girl who wants to give birth to her child whose childhood probably will be even worse then hers. But her own sisters are forcing her to make an abortion.

Ugly Ukrainian winter. I was in the situation, when the only salvation from my inner problems seemed to be outside of a world I was used to. Maybe this was the reason why I‘ve made a step inside the basement full of halfdead addicts immediately after such possibility was given to me. After my short introduction they invited me to sit down on a warm tube, near the room entrance full of human shit. I‘ve been sitting there silently, looking at their preparations. When they began to shoot up, my only will was to turn my head away, to scream, to cry, to shut my eyes and never see this again. But I was watching how their veins were torn by the needles over and over again. When the last of them made an injection, the first one started it over. Few hours later, after climbing out of their hole, after drinking and vomiting a bottle of cognac, I‘ve realized that I have no other option than to film them. This movie is an immersion in their everyday life, in their everyday self-destruction, in their past and future.

“People will hate you for this film. With passion.”
